Elder Michael the Blind

Elder Michael the Blind of Valaam. A great schemamonk who water later known and revered by Fr Seraphim Rose, recognized as one of the last elders of Valaam during Soviet persecution. He lived both as a hermit and a renowned miracle working elder who often said, "Living in the monastery, I knew only two paths: to the church and to my cell.” He stood firm for the purity of Orthodoxy during persecutions inside and outside of the Church. He gave up his holy soul to God on the feast of the Annunciation of the Mother of God in 1962.
